The Crete Public Library’s Youth Service Department went back in time recently for the How to Be a Forty-Niner program.

The large meeting room was transformed into a Wild West town where gold was king.

The town included a bank to transfer gold nuggets into cash to spend at the general store, the pharmacy or the doctor’s office or to pay bail if you had the bad luck of landing in jail.

The Acorn Room was the place to pan for gold and become wealthy.

“The summer reading club program was one of the many fun events held over the past few weeks,” officials said.
