South Suburban College, 15800 S. State St., South Holland, will host an open house for its new Speaking Center in Room 3236, from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 20.
The center was created to assist individuals in each step of the speech process.
“Students are guaranteed to use his or her reading, writing, listening, speaking and presenting skills each day in any speech class,” SSC speech instructor Bridget Nickel said in a news release. “As a result of practicing and improving these skills daily, an individual will experience the transformation from being a student to being a valuable member of society — a citizen who can communicate clearly and effectively.”
The mission of the South Suburban Speaking Center is to support students and community members in the ongoing process of becoming more confident, competent and effective speakers. Students and community members will have the opportunity to speak one on one with a certified speech instructor.
The services available at the Speaking Center are free to SSC students and residents of Community College District 510. The center accepts walk-ins depending on instructor availability, or appointments can be scheduled.
