ART

THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO: 111 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, (312) 443-3600: Exhibits include “Of Gods and Glamour: The Mary and Michael Jaharis Galleries of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Art” to Nov. 27, 2015.

Admission is free to Illinois residents from 5-8 p.m. Thursdays.

SALON ARTISTS GALLERY: 294 Main St., Park Forest, (708) 833-5108 or (708) 748-3946: The November exhibit is “Eclectic Art & Holiday Sale” runs from Nov. 22-Dec. 21. The artwork of Suzanne Dreher, Ginny Raftery and Wyll Mull will be presented. There also are original one-of-a-kind gifts made by local artists at the 22nd annual holiday art sale, which includes paintings, prints, photographs, cards, pottery, jewelry and woodwork. A free opening reception is set for 4-9 p.m. Nov. 22, with live music from 6-9 p.m.

UNION STREET GALLERY: 1527 Otto Blvd., Chicago Heights, (708) 754-2601: “Twelfth Month,” an exhibit and boutique, runs to Dec. 21.

MUSEUMS

ADLER PLANETARIUM: 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-7827: Exhibits include “Cosmic Wonder,” “The Universe: A Walk Through Space and Time,” “Our Solar System,” “Collecting Memories: The Webster Story,” “Planet Explorers” for families with ages 3-8, “Telescopes: Through the Looking Glass,” and “Shoot for the Moon.”

THE FIELD MUSEUM: 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-9410: Exhibits include “Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence” to Jan. 5.

MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY: 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (773) 684-1414: Exhibits include “Science Storms,” “YOU! The Experience,” “The Great Train Story” and the Baby Chick Hatchery. There also are daily live science demonstrations like the chemistry show “Bangs, Flashes and Fire.”

SHEDD AQUARIUM: 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 939-2438: Exhibits include “Jellies,” which has been extended through 2013, “Waters of the World,” “Caribbean Reef,” “Amazon Rising,” “Wild Reef” and the Polar Play Zone. Attractions include the Shedd’s aquatic show.

PLAYING LIVE

STEVE BOBBIT AND THE YOUNG TURKS: A ROD STEWART TRIBUTE: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: This performance will be at 8 p.m. Nov. 23. Tickets are $19 or $16 for center members.

THIS MUST BE THE BAND: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: This Talking Heads tribute band performs at 8 p.m. Nov. 27. Tickets are $19, or $17 for center members.

THEATER

“THE ADVENTURES OF HANSEL AND GRETEL”: The Drama Group Studio Theatre, 330 W. 202nd St., Chicago Heights, (708) 755-3444: The Drama Group’s Daytime Children’s Theatre presents “The Adventures of Hansel and Gretel” at noon Nov. 22, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Nov. 23 and 1 p.m. Nov. 24. The cast includes Maddie Ward, Burke Fry, Peggy Ward, Noah Uhlenbrauck, Sarah Walton and Loretta DeLuca. Tickets in advance are $6 or $5 per person for groups of 25 or more. Tickets at the door are $7 each.

“SUNSET BLVD.”: Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St., Oak Lawn, (708) 857-2200: Oak Lawn Park District Theatre presents this show at 8 p.m. Nov. 22-23 and 3 p.m. Nov. 24. The staff of the show includes executive producers Dave Heilmann and Paul Nirchi, who is also producer and director; assistant director Brad Kisner, choreographer Tom Fagan, musical director Marty Hesse and set designer and lighting coordinator Gil Oliva. The show features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics and book by Don Black and Christopher Hampton. “Sunset Blvd.” is presented by special arrangement with R&H Theatricals. Tickets are $22 for adults or $21 for ages 60 or older or 12 and younger.

VARIETY

CHRISTMAS FEST: Downtown Mokena and other locations, (708) 479-2468: The Mokena Chamber of Commerce hosts this Nov. 23 event, which includes pictures with Santa Claus, children’s crafts, face painting, a lighted parade on Front Street and a family dance.

ILLINOIS DOLL, BEAR & TOY SHOWS: Tinley Park Convention Center, 18451 Convention Center Drive, (708) 342-5485: This event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 24. Early admission is $10 per person. Regular admission is $5 for adults or $2 for ages younger than 12. All shows have an appraiser for no charge with a paid adult admission.

ORLAND PARK COMEDY IMPROV: Old Village Hall, 14413 Beacon Ave., Orland Park, (708) 403-6100: Improvised comedy will be performed from 8-10 p.m. Nov. 22 for ages 18 and older. Tickets are $6 at the door.

SETTLERS’ DAY: Sand Ridge Nature Center, 15891 S. Paxton Ave., South Holland, (708) 868-0606: One can step back into America’s past at this event from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 24. There will be costumed living-history demonstrators, history hikes, crafts and an imaginary wagon train adventure. Admission is free, but donations of nonperishable food or money will be accepted to benefit a local food depository.
