Crete Park District announces July programs lineup

The Crete Park District is hosting a number of upcoming programs.

Unless otherwise indicated, they will be held at the park district’s Willard Wood Center, 515 First St., Crete. Advance registration is required at the center or online, unless otherwise indicated, and registration is requested at least one week in advance to guarantee the classes will be held.

The programs:

To Knit or Knot to Knit

Attendees can learn basic knitting skills and all about the new and different types of yarns, needles and accessories. The class is for ages 8 to adult and is from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays. The next session will run July 7 to 28 and costs $20 for residents of the Crete Park District and $30 for nonresidents. Participants must bring a set of No. 8 straight knitting needles and a skein of knitting worsted light color yarn.

A Stitch in Time Art Quilting Class

The basic skills of machine sewing via a 10-by-19 Art Quilted table topper will be taught. Participants will learn to use the colored pencil technique on fabric to make a design, and how to chain sew a nine patch, stitch in the ditch and sew a binding on. The class is held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays, with the next session running July 10 to 31. The fee is $125, and participants should pick up a supply list from the park district and bring their own sewing machine.

Yoga in the Park

An all-levels morning yoga class outside in Crete Park will guide participants through a gently warming practice to help them relax, grow strong and increase flexibility, according to the district. Classes are from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays, and the next one will take place July 12. The fee is $10, and participants should bring a yoga mat, water and a towel.

Zumba

Participants will work out to international rhythms using easy-to-follow moves in a party atmosphere, according to the park district. The class is for ages 18 and up and will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the next session running from July 8 to 31. The fee is $44 for residents of the Crete Park District and $56 for nonresidents.

Chair yoga

Balance, alignment and flexibility will be the focus the new program, which is for ages 18 and up, the district said. Classes will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays, with the next session running from July 7 to Aug. 4. The fee is $30, and participants should bring a yoga mat to class.

Floor hockey

Kids ages 8 to 18 can visit the Crete Park tennis courts for floor hockey. There will be team games, and competitive skill games such as shoot the puck. Kids ages 8 to 12 will play from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Thursdays, with the next session running July 10 to 31. The fee is $23 for park district residents and $30 for nonresidents. Ages 13 to 16 play from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Mondays, with the session running from July 7 to 28. The fee is $25 for residents of the district, and $32 for nonresidents.

Adult soccer

The adult soccer league is for ages 18 and up. Weekly random co-ed teams will be made, and a 60-minute match will be played. Games are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays from July 8 to 29. The fee is $25 for district residents and $30 for nonresidents. Games are played at Heritage Park.
