Meeting about longer school day in Chicago slated for Wednesday

A meeting to discuss Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s proposal to extend the day for Chicago Public Schools is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 W. 115th St. in Merrionette Park.

Emanuel has proposed extending the school day to 7.5 hours. Many parents with children enrolled in the city’s Mount Greenwood community-area schools have protested, saying they prefer a 6.5-hour school day.

Chicago Public Schools representatives are invited to participate in the public forum, parent Becky Malone said.
