Students at Kerr and Veterans Memorial middle schools in Blue Island recently were visited by local celebrities Bob “Butterbean” Love, former basketball legend, three-time NBA All-Star and current director of community affairs for the Chicago Bulls; and Katie Quick, an Evergreen Park native who rose from the ranks as a Chicago Public School teacher who traded in her plan book for a guitar to become a country music artist.

Love brought his story to Kerr Middle School students as part of Career Day, and he spoke about the importance of staying in school, getting an education, perseverance over adversity and achieving one’s dreams.

During her visit, Quick played a few songs and participated in a question-and-answer session in which she encouraged students to create a dream and treat each other with kindness and respect.
