The Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Council of the Knights of Columbus in Evergreen Park recently awarded six $500 scholarships to graduates of six local Catholic schools for their service to their school, church and community.
Anton R. Iberle, past grand knight, presented awards to Nina Thauer (Most Holy Redeemer); Maura Smith (Queen of Martyrs); Derek Ivkovic (St. Bede the Venerable); Brandon Narcisse (St. Bernadette); Ray Holmes (St. John Fisher); and Michael Chakinis (St. Catherine of Alexandria).
The students will be attending high school such as Marist, Brother Rice, Mother McAuley and St. Rita.
“We believe in education, especially Catholic schools, and this is one of the ways we support our young people and our schools,” said Knights of Columbus officials in a news release. “We congratulate all of the graduates in the class of 2012, and especially these six fine students.”
