BACinema to screen ‘Searching for Sugar Man’

Beverly Arts Center’s film series continues at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, with “Searching for Sugar Man.”
Directed by Malik Bendjelloul, the music documentary and biography stars Rodriguez, Stephen “Sugar” Segerman and Dennis Coffey.
Sony Pictures Classics website, sonyclassics.com, offers this description of Segerman:
“An ex-jeweller with a law degree, he now runs Mabu Vinyl, the well-known Cape Town record shop.
“He was involved in the rediscovery of Rodriguez and his subsequent reemergence, and co-runs Sugarman.org, the official Rodriguez website.”
The film received two 2012 Sundance Film Festival awards in the world cinema — documentary category.
Bendjelloul was honored with the Audience Award and the Special Jury Prize for the film’s celebration of the artistic spirit.
Rated PG-13 for brief strong language and some drug references, the film runs for 1 hour and 26 minutes.
