Blue Island man, teen charged in robbery

A Blue Island man and a teenager were charged with two counts of aggravated robbery each after Chicago police tracked them through a cell phone they had stolen early Wednesday morning, police said.
Anthony Castaneda, 17, of the 2400 block of New Street, and Rolando Ojeda Jr., 23, of the 2400 block Orchard Street, allegedly approached two men in the 10600 block of South Campbell Avenue in Chicago and demanded their belongings at gunpoint, police said.
Police officers responded to the West Beverly neighborhood at about 3:40 a.m., where they were met by the victims, two men in their early 20s, who said the offenders stuck a gun to their backs and demanded everything in their pockets, according to police. The victims handed over their wallets and a cell phone.
Officers immediately learned that the phone had a tracking device, which led them to nearby Blue Island, to a parked Chevrolet truck with its engine running and lights on.
As officers approached the vehicle, they noticed two men matching the description of the robbers, police said. As police continued their investigation, they learned the offenders also had the victims’ credit cards, a replica handgun and the cell phone.
Chicago Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) praised the police work involved.
“These officers exercised quick thinking that led to the immediate arrest of two offenders posing a threat to citizens,” he said.
