Exhibits include “Rarely Seen Contemporary Works on Paper” through Jan. 13. *** Admission is free to Illinois residents on the first and second Wednesdays of the month.

MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY: 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (773) 684-1414: Exhibits include “Charlie Brown and the Great Exhibit,” “Smart Home: Green + Wired” through Jan. 6, “Science Storms,” “YOU! The Experience,” “The Great Train Story” and the Baby Chick Hatchery. There also are daily live science demonstrations like the chemistry show “Bangs, Flashes and Fire.” *** The Omnimax Theater is showing “Born To Be Wild” through March 1.
SHEDD AQUARIUM: 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 939-2438: Visitors can stop by and see the baby beluga whale and the newest otter, Cayucos, a rescued pup from California. Cayucos joined five adult otters that are native to Alaskan waters. *** Exhibits include “Jellies,” which has been extended through 2013, “Waters of the World,” “Caribbean Reef,” “Amazon Rising,” “Wild Reef” and the Polar Play Zone. Attractions include the Shedd’s aquatic show.
THEATER
FILLET OF SOLO FESTIVAL: Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Ave., Chicago, and Heartland Studio Theatre, 7016 N. Glenwood Ave., Chicago, (773) 761-4477: Lifeline Theatre’s 16th annual Fillet of Solo Festival will feature soloist storyteller Kristen Clifford, who grew up in Evergreen Park.
She has performed in TBS Just for Laughs Chicago festival and the Chicago Women’s Funny Festival, both of which occurred in 2012.
The festival will run through Jan. 20. Performance times are 7 and 8:30 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 4 p.m. Sundays at 4 p.m.
“As part of its 30th anniversary season, Lifeline Theatre is thrilled to partner with a host of local performance groups in a vibrant celebration of Chicago’s long-lived storytelling and Live Lit scene,” officials said.
The festival also will feature the work of 2nd Story, enSOLO, GayCo, the kates, the Lifeline Storytelling Project, Stir Friday Night, Story Club, Sweat Girls, Tellin’ Tales Theatre (featuring Tekki Lomnicki), Write Club and You’re Being Ridiculous.
Amanda Rountree, Kim Morris and Eric Warner are among the solo performers booked for this event.
Tickets are $10 for single tickets and $30 for a festival pass (allows admission to any performance). Free parking is available with a shuttle.

VARIETY
BACINEMA SCREENING OF “SIDE BY SIDE”: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: The weekly film series continues with this movie at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 9. Not rated, the documentary runs for 1 hour and 39 minutes. Tickets are $7.50 or $5.50 for members.
