A senior at Evergreen Park Community High School is being honored for her volunteer work in the community.

Kylee Keeton was presented with a president’s Volunteer Service Award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have committed significant time to helping their communities and their country. Keeton took part in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program this year, representing the school.

Keeton, who is the president of her class, has been a volunteer both in her community and at school. She’s been involved in student government, Snowball, National Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions, yearbook, art club and prom committee.

She’s also volunteered at a youth group since 2009, helped at the Animal Welfare League the past two summers, been a member of the Evergreen Park youth commission since 2008, and spent the past three years volunteering with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Keeton also has taken mission trips to Guatemala in recent years to help villages with medical attention.

Nationwide, more than 37,000 youngsters have been considered for these awards since The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards started in 1995.

“The recipients of these awards vividly demonstrate that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities,” Prudential Financial chairman and CEO John R. Strangfeld said in a news release. “In recognizing these students and placing a spotlight on their volunteer service activities, we hope to motivate others to consider how they can also contribute to their community.”
