Women and gender symposium on tap at SXU

St. Xavier University’s Department of Women and Gender Studies is hosting a symposium in honor of Women’s History Month, called “Binders full of women: Examining gender on campus and beyond.”
The symposium is scheduled for March 22 in the student lounge at the Warde Academic Center, 3700 W. 103rd St., Chicago.
The program invites the community to consider gender issues on campus and beyond. The event is free to the public.
The schedule of events includes:
Welcome and coffee, 8:30 to 9 a.m.
Panel I: “Women in the Classroom: History and Philosophy of American Education” with professor David Hibbs (education), 9 to 9:50 a.m.
Panel II: “The Clashing of the Titans: Perception, Narcissism, and Self-esteem” with professors Michael Bathgate (religious studies), Troy Martin (religious studies) and Josephine Ebomoyi (biology), 10 to 10:50 a.m.
Round Table I: “Gender Disparity in Academic and Professional Fields” with professors Bindhu Varughese (chemistry), Liane Cochran-Stafira (biology), and students Jackie Sarna (chemistry), Leanne Fischler (biology) and Ewa Lindgren (math), 11 to 11:50 a.m.
“Brown-Bag Lunch: Women in Politics” with former 19th Ward Ald. and SXU senior fellow Virginia Rugai, noon to 12:50 p.m.
Panel III: “Trailblazers and Intellectual Leaders” with information technology director Rola Othman and associate director of corporate, government and foundation relations Ruth Hansen, 1 to 1:50 p.m.
Round Table II: “Gender Disparity in Academic and Professional Fields” with professors Larry Meneghini (nursing) and Peter Hilton (education), and student Annalisa Guerrero (communication sciences and disorders), 2 to 2:50 p.m.
Panel IV: “Her-story Throughout the Ages” with professor Peter Kirstein (history and political science), executive director for media relations Karla Thomas, and professor Joanna Nemeh (religious studies), 3 to 3:50 p.m.
Wrap-up and reception, 4 to 4:50 p.m.
