The American Heart Association is sponsoring National Walking Day on April 3.

April 3 is National Walking Day, the American Heart Association’s nationwide call to action for Americans to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Heart disease is the country’s No. 1 killer, but by exercising for as little as 30 minutes each day you can reduce your risk.
That’s what the American Heart Association’s start walking movement is all about: Walk more. Eat better. Live a longer, healthier life.
The premise behind National Walking Day is simple: lace up your sneakers and go for a walk.
Walking is the easiest form of physical activity and has the lowest dropout rate of any form of exercise.
On National Walking Day, Americans are encouraged to spend at least 30 minutes of their day briskly walking.
The workplace also can play a key role in health and wellness.
Currently, less than 50 percent of adults get the recommended 150 minutes of moderately vigorous exercise per week. On April 3, companies across the country are asked to allow employees to wear sneakers to work and go for a walk during lunch or at home that evening with friends and family.
In Chicago, National Walking Day is sponsored by ArcelorMittal and the company plans to host a “Walk Around the Block at 12 o’clock” event at their facilities to encourage increased physical activity for employees.
