During Autism Awareness Month in April, many parents of children are hearing about new statistics of 1 in 50 children being diagnosed with autism. People need to be aware of the ever-increasing number of children and adults with autism and their need for understanding and help — when medical insurance, education, job training and housing is nowhere near meeting the demand and needs of an exploding population of people with autism.
Autism Speaks is looking for advocates in Illinois’ congressional districts to call on Congress to advocate for federal legislation important to families with children and adults on the autism spectrum. District advocates would be also in charge of grass roots efforts at improving autism awareness and support to help improve education and services for people with autism.
We are looking for advocates to be part of our “Autism Congress.” If you have experience working in your community, have talked with your congressional representative in the past or have a connection with autism, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to show your interest and to talk further.
Amnesty program questioned
Our country must enjoy partisanship, incompetence, gridlock, avoidance of responsibility and economic stagnation. Why else would we keep returning the same incompetents to Congress?
The inescapable conclusion is that much of the electorate is ignorant and ill-informed because they don’t vote using their heads.
But people do vote their pocketbooks. A case in point — there are only eight congressman meeting behind closed doors planning amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants. Who will pay for this amnesty program? These congressmen must consider the jobs to be taken from legal citizens who are unemployed and the costs involved in welfare, education, housing, hospitalization, food stamps and other benefits for those who broke our laws by coming here.
Much like Obamacare, we will find out too late the consequences of this proposed amnesty program.
Disappointed with Obama
I am totally disgusted with President Barack Obama’s betrayal of the poor, the elderly and the disenfranchised through his proposed change in the consumer price index formula for Social Security.
The re-calculated number will not keep up with inflation for necessities such as food and health care. Seniors, the permanently disabled (veterans among them) and orphans will suffer drastically.
In light of his total capitulation to bankers, big business and Republicans, to refer to the president as a liberal is to call Justin Bieber a brain surgeon.
