St. Xavier University recently was named to the 2014 Military Friendly Schools list in recognition of its efforts to reach out to veterans and military personnel, according to a news release from the school.
The list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus, the release said.
“Military veterans are warmly welcomed to St. Xavier University,” St. Xavier University president Christine M. Wiseman said in the release.
Her father was a Navy veteran of the D-Day Invasion at Omaha Beach.
“We are proud to participate in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, and we encourage service members to learn more about the many other ways that SXU extends a friendly hand to our nation’s military veterans,” Wiseman said in the release.
The 1,868 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience, the release said.
These schools have world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility and other services to those who served, the release said.
St. Xavier’s main campus is at 3700 W. 103rd St., Chicago.
