THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO: 111 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, (312) 443-3600: Exhibits include “Of Gods and Glamour: The Mary and Michael Jaharis Galleries of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Art” to Nov. 27, 2015.

Admission is free to Illinois residents from 5-8 p.m. Thursdays.

MORAINE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE’S ROBERT F. DECAPRIO ART GALLERY: 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills, (708) 974-4300: “MVCC Art Faculty Exhibition” is on display to Dec. 18.

PRAIRIE STATE COLLEGE’S CHRISTOPHER ART GALLERY: 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights, (708) 709-3500: “Abstract Impact” is on display to Dec. 12. The exhibit features work by Mary Burke, Barbara Cooper, Shelley Gilchrist, Michael Hopkins, Steve Leavitt, Zach Mory, Sharon Swidler and Cristal Tucker.

SALON ARTISTS GALLERY: 294 Main St., Park Forest, (708) 833-5108 or (708) 748-3946: “Eclectic Art & Holiday Sale” runs from to Dec. 21. The artwork of Suzanne Dreher, Ginny Raftery and Wyll Mull is featured. There also are original one-of-a-kind gifts made by local artists at the 22nd annual holiday art sale, which includes paintings, prints, photographs, cards, pottery, jewelry and woodwork.

UNION STREET GALLERY: 1527 Otto Blvd., Chicago Heights, (708) 754-2601: “Twelfth Month,” an exhibit and boutique, runs to Dec. 21.

CASTING CALL

BEVERLY THEATRE GUILD’S “THE GLASS MENAGERIE”: Salem United Church of Christ, 9717 S. Kostner Avenue, Oak Lawn, (773) 284-8497: Auditions for this show by Tennessee Williams will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 3-4, with callbacks at 7 p.m. Dec. 5. Auditions will consist of individual readings of excerpts from the script. Headshots and resumes are not necessary but those who do have them should send them to BeverlyTheatreGuild@juno.com before the auditions or bring them to the auditions.

ADLER PLANETARIUM: 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-7827: Exhibits include “Cosmic Wonder,” “The Universe: A Walk Through Space and Time,” “Our Solar System,” “Collecting Memories: The Webster Story,” “Planet Explorers” for families with ages 3-8, “Telescopes: Through the Looking Glass,” and “Shoot for the Moon.”

THE FIELD MUSEUM: 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 922-9410: Exhibits include “Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence” to Jan. 5.

MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY: 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (773) 684-1414: “Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light” is on display to Jan. 5. Other exhibits include “Science Storms,” “YOU! The Experience,” “The Great Train Story” and the Baby Chick Hatchery. There also are daily live science demonstrations like the chemistry show “Bangs, Flashes and Fire.”

SHEDD AQUARIUM: 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, (312) 939-2438: Exhibits include “Jellies,” which has been extended through 2013, “Waters of the World,” “Caribbean Reef,” “Amazon Rising,” “Wild Reef” and the Polar Play Zone. Attractions include the Shedd’s aquatic show.

PLAYING LIVE

THE BUCKINGHAMS: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: The Joy of Christmas show takes place Nov. 30. Headlined by founding members Carl Giammarese and Nick Fortuna, the band will perform Billboard top 40 hits “Kind of a Drag,” “Don’t You Care,” “Lawdy Miss Clawdy” and “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” plus holiday favorites. Tickets are $35, or $32 for center members.

MORAINE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE: Moraine Valley Community College’s Dorothy Menker Theater, 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills, (708) 974-5500: This group’s free holiday concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4. Tickets are $12, or $10 for seniors, students and staff.

VARIETY

BEVERLY HILLS TURKEY TROT 5K RUN AND FAMILY WALK: Chicago’s North Beverly area: (773) 238-0288: This fifth annual event starts at 8 a.m. Nov. 30, and proceeds benefit the John McNicholas Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and the 19th Ward Youth Foundation. A postrace party will be at the Kellogg Elementary School field, 9241 S. Leavitt St., Chicago, and feature local vendors, activities for children and live entertainment.

GET MIXIN: Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago, (773) 445-3838: This free event from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 1 will help participants learn the art of entertaining. From mixology to mixed media, information will include how to put a creative spin on holiday parties.

NIGHT OF MUSIC & COMEDY: Governors State University’s Center for Performing Arts, off University Parkway east of Governors Highway, University Park, (708) 235-2222: Narski Music presents this fourth annual party with a purpose at 7 p.m. Nov. 29. Hosted by Herb “the Cool Gent” Kent, the event will feature Ronnie Laws, comedian BLT, BabiDoll, Tom Browne and Chris Allison.

NOSTALGIC CHRISTMAS TEA: The Pickwick Society Tea Room, Gifts & Antiques, 122 W. Kansas St., Frankfort, (815) 806-8140: This fifth annual event from 12:30-3 p.m. Dec. 1 features an afternoon tea with laughter, tears, songs and stories and the Pickwick Players. Cost is $30.

SANTA ON THE GREEN: Oak Lawn Village Green, 94th Street and Cook Avenue, (708): This Nov. 30 event from 1-5 p.m. includes a mini parade from the Oak Lawn Police Department down Oak Street to the village green. Santa Claus will hear children’s requests inside the gazebo. Photos will be available with Santa, Frosty the Snowman and the elf stilt walker. The heated hospitality tent will feature Christmas caroling by the Sward/Kolmar School Choir, which will begin at 2 p.m.
