The Mount Greenwood Colts Widget (fifth- and sixth-grade) cheerleaders received a bid to state at the Illinois Recreational Cheer Association’s Final Fling 8 “The Ocho” competition.

The team headed to the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill., for the state competition.

The Colts won second place on a Friday and advanced to the finals on a Sunday where they walked away with the third-place trophy for the sixth-grade small cheer division.

To continue the fun as the cheer season winds down, the team will share the trophy.

Each girl and coach will have a week to spend with the trophy, Stanley Cup style.

They will be encouraged to bring the trophy out around the area and document the fun via the social networking service Instagram.

Officials said that for the first time in history, all Mount Greenwood cheer squads received a bid to state, but the Widget squad was the only to advance to the championship.

The Widget coaches are Michelle Costello, Kristy Gaichas, Joanna Sabatino and Laura Brown.

The cheerleaders include Kate Costello, Alexis Gaichas, Alyssa Sabatino, Lilah Brown, Mia Cisneros, Allison Cruz, Grace Molenhouse, Isabella Arevalo, Gracie Feil and Nora Klinger.

Morah McGovern, Grace Turner, Soliel White, Tara Quinn, Evelyn Rudzinskas, Lauryn Sanders, Maddie Smith, Sophia DiDomizio, Claudia Dicaro and Kori Clark are also part of the cheerleading team.
