Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School will host the Chicago Shakespeare Touring Theatre Co. on April 1 for a performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
The in-school field trip is sponsored by the English department and partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
The Chicago Shakespeare Touring Theatre Co. is known for vibrant productions that reflect Shakespeare’s genius for storytelling, language and empathy for the human condition, according to a press release. Thanks to the invitation for the group to perform in McAuley’s auditorium, 570 students will have the opportunity to see the production.
The works of Shakespeare play a significant role in the four-year English curriculum at McAuley, according to the release.
The Illinois Arts Council Agency awarded McAuley the Artstour and Live Music Grant, which covers 50 percent of the total cost of the performance. The state agency encourages development of the arts throughout Illinois by providing financial and technical assistant to artists, arts organizations and other community organizations that present arts programming, the release said.
