Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 students are making a difference in the lives of Will County families stricken with cancer.

Students from all four Lincoln-Way schools — Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way North and Lincoln-Way West — recently raised $13,779.26 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in conjunction with Make a Difference Day.

The money was collected during a “Pennies for Patients” campaign at each school and presented to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society representative Claire Choiniere during a recent TEAM Asset meeting at Lincoln-Way Central High School.

“This is a community of caring and giving,” Choiniere told the group.

Choiniere said she estimates the Lincoln-Way students and staff have donated more than $71,600 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society over the last six years. The money is used to help patients receive medical treatment and to fund cancer research, said Choiniere.

Last year, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was able to help 70 patients in Will County thanks to donors like the Lincoln-Way students and staff.

“We couldn’t help those people if we didn’t have (the) students and support,” said Choiniere.
