Two people were injured and traffic was stopped for more than an hour when a semitruck crossed into oncoming lanes on Interstate 80, causing a crash in the southwest suburbs Monday morning.
The crash occurred on eastbound I-80 just west of U.S. 30 in New Lenox Township, just east of Joliet, at about 10:45 a.m., according to an Illinois State Police Joliet District master sergeant.
The driver of the semi, which was westbound, lost control and crossed the center median, striking a vehicle which was heading east on I-80, the master sergeant said.
Two people in that vehicle were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
Traffic was temporarily stopped in the aftermath of the crash, but as of about 12:30 p.m. Monday, one lane of traffic on I-80 had been reopened in that area, he said.
