‘Carnivale’ theme highlights Frankfort Fall Festival

Highlights
Carnival rides and attractions are from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday ($20 wristbands for unlimited rides that night), 5 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
Arts and crafts vendors will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
Live bands will perform in the entertainment tent Friday through Monday, and on the Breidert Green stage Saturday through Monday.
Artisan craft demonstrations will take place at Breidert Green.
The Frankfort Lions Club’s 31st annual Sweepstakes Dance and drawing is Thursday in the entertainment tent. Each ticket is an entry for two people to the dance and a chance to win several prizes including the $10,000 first prize. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Food and beverages will be sold.
The annual parade with a “Carnivale!” theme steps off at 1 p.m. Sunday, featuring John and Judy Herder as grand marshals.
The Frankfort Car Club’s annual exhibition, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, features vintage automobiles on the north side of Elwood Street.
There will be bike parking for $2 and roller blades for $1, next to the Old Plank Road Trail off of White Street.
Shuttle bus service from the general parking lots to the Trolley Barn on Kansas Street runs from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Parking is available in the grassy lot at LaGrange Road and Nebraska Street and at Peace Community Church, 130 S. LaGrange Road, for a $10 donation to Frankfort Boy Scouts.
Handicapped parking will be at the Trolley Barn parking lot, at Nebraska Street and Center Road, with a $10 donation to the Frankfort Dog Park Organization.

The village of Frankfort will have a “Carnivale!” atmosphere while an estimated 250,000 people visit the downtown area through Monday for the 44th annual Fall Festival.
The Labor Day tradition features 300 artisans, a parade, live music, carnival rides, food and beverages, and artisan demonstrations.
“The event transforms our community from a quaint and lively little village into a thriving beehive of excitement and celebratory activity,” fest co-chair Cindy Heath said. “What better theme could illustrate this transformation than one which draws on the carefree celebration of life which is the Carnivale tradition? When I imagine Carnivale, I think of friends, neighbors and visitors coming together for a dayslong party in the streets.”
Heath said festgoers should expect to see “lots of feathers, colorful beads, masks and more on the streets of Frankfort during Labor Day weekend.”
