The Mokena School District 159 Board on Wednesday will consider hiring John Troy as the district’s business manager.
Troy, a former board president, was selected as the leading candidate for the job from a field of 14 applicants. The position has been vacant since the July resignation of Kirt Hendrick.
In an email to Supt. Steve Stein, Hendrick cited a lack of “trust by the board” as one of the reasons for his unexpected resignation.
Troy resigned from the school board on July 23 to avoid “the appearance of a conflict of interest” before applying for the business manager’s position.
He said he has been working for the past year on certification at Northern Illinois University as a chief school business official and will have completed the program early in 2013.
If approved, Troy will receive a prorated salary of $68,000, resulting in a savings to the district of about $14,000.
