Walker students visit Navy Pier
Sixth-grade students at Walker Intermediate School in Tinley Park recently took a field trip to Navy Pier in Chicago.
Students took an hour-long cruise of the Chicago River and learned about the history and architecture of Chicago buildings.
“Many of the students expressed their enjoyment of the trip and were pleased to have an opportunity to see and appreciate the beauty of the buildings and the city,” a school spokewoman said.
Girl Scouts participate in food drive
Nearly 200 Girl Scouts recently participated in the annual Lockport Township High School Girl Scout Clean Up and Food Drive.
The girls, who ranged in age from 5 to 18, cleaned up the school’s football field and surrounding areas. They also brought more than 200 food items for the Fairmont Food Pantry.
Students send candy to troops
Eighth-grade students at Hickory Creek Middle School in Frankfort recently donated more than 4,000 pieces of candy to Manhattan Dental and Monee Dental.
The candy was combined with other donations and sent to troops through the Operation Gratitude program.
