Mokena School District 159 will seek bids from executive search firms to help it find a replacement for Supt. Steve Stein.
Board member Joe Spalla said most firms charge between $10,000 and $15,000 for such work. District policy calls for bidding out work that costs more than $10,000.
Stein, the superintendent since August 2011 and the Mokena Elementary School principal for 10 years before that, is leaving at the end of the school year to become the Peotone Community School District 207U superintendent.
The board agreed Wednesday to seek bids on the district’s website from Dec. 21 to 31.
Board member Kathy Moore questioned whether a 10-day turnaround during the holidays would be enough time for firms to respond. Spalla said he already had received email inquiries from several firms and the search committee already had spoken to three firms.
The board voted unanimously to award a contract at its Jan. 2 meeting.
