The Lincoln-Way West High School faculty and students basketball game raised money to fund three $500 student scholarships for the Lincoln-Way Teachers Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The faculty barely came out on top with a 65-64 win in the last seconds of the game, but everyone was a winner.
“The teachers squeaked out a win,” said David Gallagher, social science department chair at West and chairman of the event. “All proceeds go towards the scholarships for graduating seniors at West who want to go into the teaching profession.”
Gallagher said the competition to raise scholarship money is a tradition. The Mike Davis Faculty Game started more than 15 years ago.
“The idea of the Lincoln-Way teachers playing a fun but competitive basketball game as a fundraiser for those who need financial assistance is typical of the way Mike demonstrated his generosity and benevolence.,” Gallagher said.
The event has become a fundraiser for causes directly related to Lincoln-Way students. Proceeds go to the scholarship fund for students who will major in education, in honor and memory of Lincoln-Way teachers who died while serving the district.
