Lincoln-Way West poms reach top 10 at state

The Lincoln-Way West Varsity Poms have finished an amazing season capped off with placing 10th at the recent Illinois High School Association State Final Competition held in Bloomington.
The team competed in the IHSA State Preliminary Round and earned ninth place out of 31 teams in the Class 2A category. The top 10 advanced to the State Final Competition. West finished the final round in 10th place.
Highland Park was awarded third place, Lake Forest placed second, and the state champion was Crystal Lake Central High School.
“The 24 members of the West Warrior Dance team felt honored to be a part of the Inaugural IHSA Competitive Dance Final,” West coach Melissa Sweeney said. “I am proud of the team’s dedication and determination. These students combined their creativity, talent, and effort to achieve their goal of placing in the top 10 at state.”
The West squad’s routine this year has the theme of magic. This theme is incorporated into their music, choreography, tricks, formations and costumes.
“The squad has earned excellent scores in the artistic categories all season,” Sweeney said.
Lincoln-Way West Warriors Varsity Pom squad members are: Meghan Baltas, Angela Bieser, Allison Buldak, Alyssa Burdick, Erin Dolan, Danielle Enders, Dominica Hart, Taryn Hollingsworth, Ali Johnson, Ashley Kowalsky, Erin Lavelle, Natalie Malinowski, Sarah McDonald, Kari Molloy, Kailyn O’Connor, Alexus Petrongelli, Nikki Revak, Jenny Richardson, Abby Richmond, Hannah Sigrist, Miranda St. Amour, Gabby Tanquilut, Carlee Wajchert, and Moira Ziebart.
“Our Varsity Poms have set the bar high, earning a spot in the Top 10 of the state as part of the inaugural IHSA Competitive Dance Final. We are all very proud of their accomplishments,” West Principal Monica Schmitt said.
