Mischievous ‘Ramona Quimby’ headed to Lincoln-Way West

Updated: May 22, 2013 6:06AM

Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210’s Children’s Series will host a performance of “Ramona Quimby,” based on Beverly Cleary’s “exasperating but lovable” third-grader.

Adapted from Cleary’s Newbery Award-winning book, “Beezus and Ramona,” the play depicts the life of Quimby, a favorite character of elementary school readers since the book’s 1955 publication.

While intending to tickle the funny bone, the play also incorporates issues that touch on the lives of real families.

Ramona’s teacher hates her, and her older sister Beezus is a pain. Aunt Bea may marry a dork, and Dad just lost his job.

Life is no picnic for Ramona, and growing up isn’t easy, but with the help of her loving and patient family and friends, Ramona takes on life’s daily challenges.

The 60-minute play features five professional adult actors from Theatreworks USA and will be performed at 7 p.m. April 26 at Lincoln-Way West High School, 21701 S. Gougar Road, New Lenox.

Tickets are $6 and may be purchased with a credit card by calling (815) 534-3004 or visiting www.lw210.org/finearts/childrens.php.

Seating is general admission.
