Lincoln-Way Central winter guard takes first

The Lincoln-Way Central Winter Guard earned first place at the recent 2013 Midwest Color Guard Circuit Championships in LaPorte, Ind.

The 14-member guard’s show, “Gem of the Deep,” scored a 71.52 in Class Scholastic AA finals competition.

“We are so proud of our winter guard. They have worked hard to create a beautiful presentation of movement, and they deserve every accolade they receive,” Lincoln-Way Central music department chair Stacy Williams-Jackson said.

Kelly Fleckenstein, a senior from New Lenox, received a $500 college scholarship from the Midwest Color Guard Circuit. Clare Walsh, a sophomore from Manhattan, was selected from all first-year participants as the 2013 “Rookie of the Year.”

Guard members include Fleckenstein, Walsh, Courtney Brown, Kelsey Hannigan, Keziah Cobden, Carly Smith, Erin Strache, Kori Koopman, Kayla Bogda, Rebecca Kahney, MacKenna Marozas, Rachel Mitoff, Megan Cosgrove and Katie Huish.

The Lincoln-Way Central Winter Guard is directed by Felton Harlan and Natalie Cooper.
