Tiger Kwon’s Martial Arts from New Lenox participated in the third annual Chicago Open held in River Grove. Ten of their advanced students competed and five took home first-place trophies in board breaking. The board breaking winners were Leeland Walsh, Nicholas Cante, Olivia Brennan, Jalayna VanderVelde and Caleb Boykin.
The team took home two gold medals in forms from Brendan Vlasak and Jalayna VanderVelde.
Four second-place trophies were awarded in forms to Leeland Walsh, Daniel Lewis, Nicholas Cante and Olivia Brennan. The team won three second-place trophies in board breaking (Brendan Vlasak, Jacob Waller, and Sam Porto).
A second-place trophy was also awarded to Jacob Waller for sparring.
Third-place trophies were awarded to Leeland Walsh, Brendan Vlasak, and Sam Porto for sparring. Also awarded for third place were Daniel Lewis, Morgan Antis, Sam Porto, Caleb Boykin and Abigail Soper for forms. Antis and Soper were also awarded third place for board breaking.
The New Lenox Tiger Kwon students are trained in tae kwon do and Hapkido under the instruction of Master Kwon, who has more than 40 years of martial arts experience.
