Elizabeth Karales, badminton coach for Lincoln-Way Central High School, recently received an Illinois High School Association letter saying she has been selected as the 2012-2013 badminton coach of the year.
She has coached badminton for the past four years, beginning in 2009, for Lincoln-Way Central. The varsity Knights went 8-4 in dual matches for the 2012-13 season.
“Liz Karales is an outstanding coach, mentor, and role model,” Lincoln-Way Central athletic director Hudson Venerable said. “She is well-deserving of this recognition from the IHSA. We’re very proud of her.”
According to a letter to Karales from Marty Hickman, executive director of the IHSA, she was selected to receive the honor based upon the positive work that she has done with the athletes in her program.
“I feel very honored and humbled to be selected for this award,” Karales said.
“We wouldn’t be able to run a successful badminton program without the support of my assistant coaches, athletic department and, of course, the hardworking athletes.”
“Liz is an exceptional coach and person,” Lincoln-Way Central Principal Steve Provis said.
“Her enthusiasm and positive attitude is contagious. It’s great to see the IHSA recognizing the attributes that our kids and staff see in her every day.”
