Lincoln-Way North signing day for athletes

The athletic department’s fall college signing day recently took place in Phoenix Hall at Lincoln-Way North High School in Frankfort.

Six Lincoln-Way North student-athletes participated in the National Letter of Intent ceremony.

They are Shannon Murphy, Ellen Graham, David Calderon, Colleen MacDougall, Casey Zimmerman and Derek Lee.

As Lincoln-Way North athletic director Matt Lyke opened the ceremony, he addressed the student-athletes, fellow students and families.

“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes and honored to be a part of the experience,” he said.

“You have always represented Lincoln-Way North High School in a positive way, and it is much appreciated.

“The path to success is only realized by accepting the responsibilities to lead, by utilizing an unyielding initiative to achieve and by daring to take on any challenge that arises. Each of you did this.”

Murphy will play volleyball for Tusculum College in Greenville, Tenn. Her coach is Mary Brown.

Murphy will major in physical therapy and said her favorite subject in high school is math.

Graham will play basketball at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Her coach is Jim Nair.

She will major in economics and/or mathematics in college and said her favorite subject in high school is history.

Calderon will play baseball at Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky. His coach is Mitch Nowicki.

Calderon will major in criminal justice and said his favorite subject in high school is math.

MacDougall will run cross country and track for Aurora University in Aurora. Her coach is Jack Young.

She will major in physical education and said she hopes to be a teacher and coach.

Zimmerman will play volleyball for the University of St. Francis in Joliet. Her coach is Brown.

Zimmerman will major in psychology and she said that her favorite subject in high school is history.

Lee will play baseball for the University of Richmond in Virginia. His coach is Nowicki.

Lee will major in business and said his favorite subject in high school is math.
