Manhattan residents earlier this week started off the new year with a bang — and flashes and pops.
About 75 people gathered in subzero temperatures at what locals call Time Square at Route 52 and North Street to watch the annual ball drop at midnight.
There was no ball, however. Many of the people who organize the ball drop were at a wedding reception, so area business owners shot off the fireworks instead.
