Chances are if you’re a Southlander, you’ve driven along Harlem Avenue at least once in your life. More than likely, though, you’ve driven along it hundreds — if not thousands — of times.
Where does it start, and where does it end? And just how long is that sucker, anyway?
Harlem Avenue begins north in Glenview and carries Illinois Route 43 for 60.3 miles until it ends its acquaintance at U.S. 30 in Frankfort.
From there, it scoots east a few feet and continues solo for about 10 miles before ending at Governors Highway in Peotone. All-in-all, it’s roughly 70 miles from tip to tip.
Southland towns Harlem Avenue runs through as it makes its way south include Summit, Bedford Park, Bridgeview, Burbank, Oak Lawn, Chicago Ridge, Worth, Palos Heights, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Matteson, Frankfort and Monee.
If you live in any of the aforementioned towns, Harlem Avenue — at least a small stretch of it — is a little piece of home.
