Pizza contest to benefit Cancer Support Center

Updated: January 11, 2012 10:16PM

A pizza-tasting contest that serves as a fundraiser for the Cancer Support Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at New Lenox VFW Post 9545, 323 Old Hickory Road.

For a $10 admission for adults and $5 for children 10 and under, attendees get pizza and pop and can vote for their favorite New Lenox-area pizza. There also will be a cash bar, and music will be provided by Good Time DJ/Mobile Beat Service.

Competing restaurants include Aurelio’s, Beggars, Chicago Dough, Italian Fiesta, Little Joe’s, Marchelloni’s, Nancy’s Pizza, Paisano’s Pizza, Papa Joe’s, Pizza King, and Pizza Mia. All will compete for best pizza in four categories: cheese, sausage, pepperoni and specialty.

Color-coded paper plates will be used, so pizza samplers will not know which pizza they are voting for. Judging ends at 7 p.m., and the winner in each category will receive a plaque.

Proceeds from the contest will be donated to the Cancer Support Center, which has locations at 19250 Everett Lane in Mokena and 2028 Elm Road in Homewood.

Since 1994, the center has provided free resources to help people improve their quality of life during the cancer experience.
