Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s annual yearbook, “Odin,” recently was honored with national awards.
Its 2010-11 issue, “Take It From Me,” received a First Place with Special Merit award from the New York-based American Scholastic Press Association and a First Class rating from the Minneapolis-based National Scholastic Press Association.
The annual publication, which is a visual and written recap of the school year, is sponsored by H-F teachers Candi Helsel-Wilk and Melissa Sauder. Co-editors-in-chief of the 2010-11 edition were Veronica Morris and Kadie O’Malley. Section editors were Teresa Ciambrone, Michelle Mayer, Amy Jackson and Clare Hamilton.
Additional staff members included Sara Lichtenberg, Rachel Greenebaum, Ellice Boskelly, Alexis Rodriguez, Jordyn Gaines, Carling Johns, Ashley Curry, Valerie Falvo, Phoebe Marks, Ryan Riley, Tochukwu Akujieze, Sara Shirer, Amanda Fordon, Brandon Metoyer, Quincy O’Malley, Erin Barton, Christopher Young and Taiwan McMillian.
The issue’s theme, “Take It From Me,” was chosen to represent the ability of H-F students to learn from each other. The issue featured directly quoted testimonials and comments from students and staff. According to the editors, the staff worked to give everyone a voice to share their experiences at H-F for years to come.
“We are very proud of our yearbook students and of their award-winning publication,” said Supt. Von Mansfield. “Their hard work has paid off, and hundreds of students and alumni will have this excellent edition to remind them of their years at H-F.”
