Homewood has extended its Lake Michigan water purchase agreement with the city of Harvey.
The contract, which was initially formed in 1982 and renewed in 2002, is set to expire again in December.
It includes a few changes including giving Homewood the option of seeking an additional water source after 2017 and requiring Harvey to promptly pay Chicago the portion of the Homewood water payment.
Harvey receives its Lake Michigan water from Chicago. Homewood sells its water to the village of Flossmoor.
Because of increasing water rates from Chicago, Homewood village officials said they are considering receiving Lake Michigan water through Hammond, Ind., in the future.
