Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s Summer Theatre recently presented the musical “Bye Bye Birdie,” which tells the story of a rock star who takes a publicity trip to the small town of Sweet Apple, Ohio to make his farewell TV performance and kiss his biggest fan before he is drafted for the war.
The story is modeled after the real-life story of Elvis Presley’s draft experience in the late 1950s.
The production was directed by Homewood-Flossmoor High School drama teacher Jill Bonavia and featured local students in second through 12th grades.
Student cast members included Damen Miller, Marianna Galligani, Jaron Nordman, Mandy Sigale, Kyle Matl, Rosemary Joyce, Duffy Karstrom, Elaina Dague and Emma Anderson.
Other cast members included T.J. Galligani, Ethan Runburg, William Knox, Audrey Brown, Elizabeth Lampley, Ava Jones, Joan Karstrom and Katharine Teykl.
Other “Bye Bye Birdie” cast members included Joanie Coderre, Emma Brown, Kennedi Sidberry, Keani Staton, Cara Deja, Joey Cipriano, Maia Bullard, Eliya Hobson and Kelli Baker.
H-F’s Summer Theatre program is a six-week performance camp offered every summer and is open to area students in second through 12th grades. Campers audition, rehearse, build sets and perform a musical at the camp’s conclusion.
