The Homewood-Flossmoor Area League of Women Voters recently held its first program of the new season, a potluck supper.
After members and their guests sampled food from a buffet, local mayors Paul Braun (Flossmoor), Robert Donaldson (Hazel Crest), Rich Hofeld (Homewood) and Deborah Meyers-Martin (Olympia Fields) presented reports about their respective villages.
The reports included information about how the community’s economic health has changed in the last decade; what challenges the community considers to be the most pressing and how these challenges are being met; and what’s happening with respect to housing foreclosures in the community and the real estate picture in general.
Hostesses for the evening were board members Karen Maurer, Ruby Marsh, Maureen McSherry, Susan Palcek, Erin Roeper, Chris Schmitt and Margaret Smith.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government; works to increase understanding of major public policy issues; and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
