The Homewood-Flossmoor Area League of Women Voters recently hosted a panel discussion on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Sheri Djurisic, a health care attorney, explained a recent Supreme Court ruling and the rationale given by Chief Justice John Roberts regarding Congress’ ability to tax.
She said the “fine” for not having insurance may be difficult to enforce.
Jim Tiernan, a licensed life and health insurance broker, said insurance exchanges, free preventative care, coverage of pre-existing conditions and no lifetime limits will be among upcoming changes to health insurance.
Laurinda Dodgen, of AARP, provided handouts including information about the new law’s time line.
