Hillcrest High School students in studio art classes and the art club recently created two murals for the school’s newly reconstructed IMC.
“The reconstruction of the Hillcrest IMC has brightened the environment, while providing an even more warm and tranquil setting for our students,” school officials said in a news release. “(Students) wished to add a splash of color to their stomping grounds while creating artwork with an inspirational message.”
Working in two groups, students developed several small sketches that were later transformed into two 4-by-6-foot murals that are housed in the Hillcrest IMC.
Participating artists included students Rohiya Nono, Abalo Nono, Candice Martinez, Lexus Brown, Joseph Homere, Kobek Mackey, Jaber Wilson, Malik Smith, Roshun Smith and Marcel Lyke.
Artists also included former students Larrie Knight, Shalese Wellmaker, Devontae Gilbert, Allonta Deshazer and L’oreal Taylor.
