Wal-Mart recently awarded 20 teachers at Sykuta Elementary School in Country Club Hills $50 Teacher Rewards gift cards. The winning teachers’ names were randomly drawn by students.

Wal-Mart donated another $900 in school supplies, which were distributed among Sykuta’s classrooms.

“We are here to recognize Sykuta’s teachers for the outstanding job they do,” said India Allen, co-manager of the Country Club Hills Wal-Mart.

Allen said Wal-Mart awards $90,000 to teachers each year. The funds for the Teacher Rewards cards come from the Wal-Mart Foundation, Allen said.

“We are giving back to the community and thanking the teachers for their hard work and dedication,” Allen said.

Teachers who received gift cards include Patricia Cobe, Pamela Duffield, Monica Wilson, Suzanne Borthwick, Kathy Hackney, Roberta Druszkowski, Linda Blacher, Kim Meier-Frasher, Theresa Theus and Latonya Walker.

Other teachers receiving gift cards included Laurie Oliver, Mary Ann Wild, Viola Wiley, Danielle Thomaston, Terri Robinson, Pam Jaeger, Mary Fran Schroeder, Sandra Sebastian, Amy Fuller and Sonya Prince.

“We are pleased to have Wal-Mart as our partner,” Sykuta Principal Karen Jones said. “We plan to establish more business and community partnerships that will work with us to ensure that Sykuta’s students do well in school.”
