Students in Hillcrest High School’s Interact Club recently participated in a community service outing at the Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County in Beecher.
During their visit, students learned about the restorative care required for endangered horses, pot- bellied pigs, ponies and cows. They also learned how to pursue a career path to becoming a professional farrier.
“This was especially beneficial for students who enjoy animals but for whom veterinarian school doesn’t have as much appeal,” school officials said in a news release.
Students also helped beautify the stables and raise awareness and funds for the Illinois Horse Rescue.
“Interact students are looking forward to providing additional volunteer hours during the second semester,” officials said.
