Business owner, education leader Blackstone dies at 74

A local business owner, former Illinois State Board of Education member, and onetime Republican U.S. congressional candidate has died.
Ronald Blackstone, 74, died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital Dec. 26. He was the husband of Southland Charter College Prep CEO and Matteson School District 162 Supt. Blondean Davis.
Blackstone was the president of Orland Park-based national management firm RJB Properties. A native of Ohio, Blackstone earned his bachelor’s degree from Knoxville College in 1960 and a master’s degree in business from the University of Chicago in 1981.
He was a Thornton Township High School district 205 academic enrichment foundation trustee and a two-term Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School District 233 board member.
Blackstone was a member of the state board of education from 1983 to 1987, and he was the Republican candidate for the U.S. 2nd Congressional District in 1992.
He also sat on the boards at Roseland Hospital, Great Lakes Bank and the Charles E. Gavin Foundation. In the past, he served on the boards of the West Loop Gate Foundation and Chicago State University Business School.
Blackstone is survived by his wife as well as his son, Ronald Joseph Blackstone, daughter-in-law Jamie Mohn, and granddaughter Jessie Blackstone.
His visitation will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. with a service to follow at noon at the House of Hope, 752 E. 114th St., Chicago. Arrangements are by the Leak and Sons Funeral Home, Country Club Hills.
