The Blackhawks are definitely playing at a dizzying height and breathing rarefied air. Their record run to start the season has been mind boggling. They’ve become like the Notre Dame football teams of my youth — everyone wants to be the team that beats them.
Many fans in the NHL remain unconvinced that the Blackhawks are for real, viewing them as mostly lucky to this point. “The streak is nice, but it’s meaningless once the second season begins in the NHL,” is another common view.
I don’t think this team has peaked yet. The unbeaten string is the culmination of several factors — talent, depth, hard work, luck, excellent goaltending and a lack of injuries. Keep your fingers crossed on the injury front. If you have your health, you have everything, especially in this compacted 2013 season.
So, are the Blackhawks peaking too early? Take a look at the rest of the Western Conference. None of those teams are to be taken lightly, but I sure wouldn’t swap them for the Hawks.
The naysayers will continue to claim that the only thing that matters is hoisting the Stanley Cup. I say don’t let the curmudgeons bring you down, Hawks fans. Enjoy and savor every game of this marvelous streak and what’s looking to be a memorable season.
Hopefully, this Blackhawks team will continue to soar to heights where only eagles dare.
Evergreen Park stops
Regarding the Feb. 17 story on Evergreen Park police possibly engaging in racial profiling in traffic stops, I’ve resided in the village for more than 20 years and can attest to the fact that if you choose to speed on 95th Street in the village, you will get a ticket eventually.
Given the many cars pulled over every day, it amazes me that people do not understand this is the case.
Here is a novel idea for people of all races: obey the law and you will not get pulled over or ticketed.
I applaud the police in Evergreen Park for making my town safer for those of us who reside here and challenge the Better Government Association and Fox 32 News to get a radar gun and investigate to see who is actually speeding.
What is this world coming too? It’s bad enough when we see many children today who don’t have any morals with the way they dress, showing off more than the eyes need to see.
With women marrying women and men marrying men, will it soon be illegal for a man to marry a woman? What will happen with the birth rate because two women or two men cannot conceive a baby?
Call me old-fashioned, but as a Catholic I still believe in marriage as solely between a man and a woman. When God created Adam, He created Eve for him, not another Adam.
What kind of an example are we setting for the children of today?
