Charges were pending Friday against a Rich Township man suspected of severely beating and stabbing his mother Monday and dumping her in a ditch before driving off, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office.
After a three-day search, Blake Springsteen, 22, of the 3600 block of Flossmoor Road, was arrested late Thursday afternoon by Flossmoor police, Flossmoor Deputy Chief Tod Kamleiter said.
Springsteen is accused of attacking his 46-year-old mother at their house, beating and binding her before placing her in the trunk of a car, Cook County sheriff’s police said.
Springsteen then drove with her to Crete, where he stabbed her multiple times before leaving her in a ditch in the 900 block of Columbia Street, according to police.
The woman remained in stable condition Friday, police said.
Kamleiter said a Flossmoor resident called police at 4:04 p.m. Thursday about a man matching Springsteen’s description, and police arrested him in the 3700 block of Flossmoor Road. Police spotted him sneaking between some houses, and he initially gave them a false name, Kamleiter said.
Springsteen was turned over to the county after Flossmoor police confirmed his identity, Kamleiter said.
The car believed to have been used by Springsteen was recovered Monday in Flossmoor, police said.
