A historian, author and co-founder of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Larry Lester recently spent the evening at Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills for Bremen Community High School District 228’s Family Reading Night.
He discussed his books on black baseball leagues and led a discussion on historical players and stories.
Officials said students, staff, coaches and community members were able to enjoy a relaxed evening with a legend.
The night was accented with baseball-themed appetizers and finger food courtesy of Hillcrest’s Family & Consumer Science Department.
The next day, Lester addressed the student body of Hillcrest while showcasing historical pictures and speaking on the importance of baseball to not only the country but to black history as well.
