Here is a look at what Southlanders from the SouthtownStar’s East region are accomplishing in school.

News includes Lansing, South Holland, Country Club Hills, Homewood, Flossmoor, Park Forest, Crete, Olympia Fields, Harvey, Dolton, Calumet City, Chicago Heights and Richton Park.

Students inducted into honor society

Adrien Cook of Lansing and Kyrah Davis of South Holland were inducted into the Brother J. Richard Rush chapter of the National Honor Society at De La Salle Institute in Chicago.

Hillcrest DECA students attend conference

Hillcrest High School Distributive Education Clubs of America members Crystal Haywood, Jasmine Pritchard, Ashlee Smith and Virgil Stanford represented their Country Club Hills school at the State Career Development Conference in Decatur.

H-F student wins state championship

Junior Donyae Lewis was named state champion in informative speaking at the Illinois High School Association State Speech Tournament.

Lewis is a student and speech team member at Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor.

Park Forest student attends college day

Beatrice Mars of Park Forest participated in a Northwestern College Scholarship Day competition in Orange City, Iowa.

Mars is a senior at South Side Baptist High School in Oak Lawn.

H-F students earn quarter honors

Several students were named Student Of The Quarter for the second quarter at Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor. The students are:

Erin Bruggeman for business education; Brianna Rauch for career education; Olivia Hamilton for consumer science; Darryl Simmons for dean’s office; Joselynn Melvin for English; Leigh Reid for fine arts; Brenton Smith, Steven Smith and Connor Quinn for guidance; Jake Zalewski for health; Elizabeth Joyce for math; Evan Wierzbicki for music; Joe Proby for physical education; Passion Harper for reading; Leslie Bonthron for science; Chardae Greenlee for social science; and Simeon Nwokenkwo for world language.

Students receive art show awards

Several area students received a Best in Show award at the Regional High School Art Exhibit sponsored by South Suburban College in South Holland. The students are:

Sadie Hill, Crete-Monee High School in Crete; Alazariel Anderson, Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields; Markeisha Griffin, Thornwood High School in South Holland; Isabel Angulo, Thornton Township High School in Harvey; Deaira Richardson, Thornridge High School in Dolton; Kennedy Warfield, Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills; Stephanie Smith, Thornton Fractional South High School in Lansing; Kenneth Stephens Jr., Thornton Fractional North High School in Calumet City; Cinthia Rueda, Bloom High School in Chicago Heights; Briana Williams, Bloom Trail High School in Chicago Heights; Denise Ortega, Rich South High School in Richton Park; Monique Ocanas, Rich East High School in Park Forest; and Mykel Adams, Seton Academy in South Holland.

Additionally, Jesse Paz, Thornton Fractional North High School in Calumet City, won a Best in Exhibition award for brochure/poster design and Kaylen Langon, of Seton Academy in South Holland, won a Great Clay Award.
