Mokena Farm & Barn Fest set for Aug. 17

Mokena’s annual Farm and Barn Fest is slated for 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 17 at Yunker Farm, 10824 W. LaPorte Road.
A flea market is to take place across the street from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the soccer fields of The Oaks Recreation and Fitness Center, 10847 W. LaPorte Road. The sixth annual Quilt Show will be at the fitness center’s fieldhouse from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Farm and Barn Fest celebrates the significance of farming life and harvest time in Illinois’ history. Guests can see and experience farm life from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be demonstrations such as sheep shearing and blacksmithing, and children’s activities, including a petting zoo, horse rides, games, activities and face painting.
Registration for the baby contest begins at 10 a.m., and the contest is at 10:30 a.m. Free contests for kids include Little Farmer Costume and Sing-A-Long, pie eating, and potato sack races.
There will be free entertainment, including Cowboy Randy Erwin singing and performing rope tricks, and the Boot Scooters will perform Country Line Dancing. A Country Concert from 5 to 11 p.m. will feature Sean Skyler Duo, followed by Crazy Talk.
There will be food vendors, and beer, wine and alcoholic beverages will be sold.
Admission is $3 for adults 21 and older. Children will be admitted free of charge with parental supervision.
