Debra Glenn, Djuna McLeod, Felton Armand and Yvonne Lee were honored by the Homewood-Flossmoor Toastmasters Club for their communication achievements.
Glenn, McLeod and Lee earned the Competent Communicator award by completing 10 speeches of increasing difficulty and purpose.
Armand earned the Advanced Leadership Bronze, Advanced Communicator Silver and Club Ambassador awards, along with a certificate for mentoring new club members.
“The Competent Communicator Award signifies growth through learning and practice. Each of the speeches required has specifics goals such as organizing a speech, using body language and using visual aids,” Armand, vice president of public relations, said.
“Many members join to overcome the phobia of public speaking. By the time they have reached Competent Communicator status, they welcome the opportunity to speak in front of a live audience,” Glenn, president of Toastmasters Club 1451, said.
“Our club has a collective vision to improve the communication and leadership ability of its members. We work with each new member to develop a customized growth plan that encourages participation and achievement,” Vanessa Israel, vice president of education and president-elect, said.
H-F Toastmasters meet at 8 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Sylvan Learning Center, Ridge Road and Halsted Street, Homewood.
