The H-F Racquet & Fitness Club is holding registration for its Fifth Annual Indoor Triathlon.
Members and nonmembers may participate as individuals or as part of a relay team, according to a press release from the club. Participants also may compete in two heats of the Indoor Triathlon, a Double Challenge, for the Indoor Iron Championship. The Indoor Triathlon and Double Challenge will be held Feb. 21 and 22 at the club, 2920 W. 183rd St., Homewood.
Each participant begins with a 10-minute swim in the club’s 25-yard pool, with the distance recorded in 25-yard increments. There is a 10-minute transition to the bike portion, which has athletes riding a LifeFitness upright bike in the club’s fitness center for 20 minutes, with resistance factored into the overall distance. The participant will have five minutes to transition to the final segment, a 15-minute run/walk on LifeFitness treadmills in the fitness center.
Awards are given for each age group: 15 to 18, 19 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, and 80-plus. The top three overall male and female athletes will receive awards. The top three in each age group, the top three Double Challenge winners and the top three relay teams will also receive awards, the release said.
Advance registration for the Indoor Triathlon and/or Double Challenge closes Feb. 14. The registration fee after that date will cost an additional $10.
Registration ends Feb. 20 or when all starting times are filled, whichever comes first. For complete information, including a downloadable registration form, visit www.hfracquetandfitness.com.
The club will provide triathlon training beginning Jan. 11 for eight weeks. The club’s experienced triathlete trainers will provide participants with the tools and workouts to complete a triathlon, the release said.
The training is tailored for each person whether they are completing their first triathlon or looking to better their last performance, according to the release. The training covers all triathlon components with swimming, biking and running workouts, along with perfecting transition times. It includes workout plans, workout logs and nutritional information, the release said.
The H-F Racquet & Fitness Club, a facility of the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, began in 1973 as a tennis and racquet facility, the club said. It now includes a 12,000-square-foot fitness center with an indoor track, group fitness studio, a free weight area, a Pilates personal training studio, an indoor lap pool, 10 indoor tennis courts, racquetball and basketball courts and upscale amenities including locker rooms with towel service, steam rooms and whirlpools, and a members lounge, according to the press release. It offers personal training, group and private lessons, special adult and youth programs as well as programs for special-needs students, the release said.
